1. Getting started. Match these environmental problems to the pictures.
air pollution (ô nhiễm không khí)
spraying pesticides (phun thuốc trừ sâu)
garbage dump (bãi rác)

deforestation (nạn phá rừng)
dynamite fishing (đánh cá bằng thuốc nổ)

2. Listen and read.

3. Speak.
a. Try to persuade your partner to do the following things to protect the environment. Use the expressions and the idea cues given. Follow the example.
- Why don't you use public buses instead of motorbikes?
This helps to avoid traffic jams, to reduce exhaust fume, and to save energy.
- Won't you go to school or go to work by bike?
Traveling by bike can save energy and keep the air cleaner.
- What about putting garbage hins arounf the schoolyard?
Garbage bins can prevent lazy students from throwing trash on the ground and keep the schoolyard clean.

b. Find possible answers to the questionnaire. You can use the ideas in section (a).

Write on both sides of the paper.
2. How can we use fewer plastic bags?
Save plastic bags, clean and reuse them
3. How can we reduce water pollution?
Don't throw waste and garbage into streams, lakes and even oceans
4. How can we prevent littering?
Throw garbage into the waste bins
5. How can we reduce air pollution?
Use less private vehicles and don't release pollutants into the air.
6. How can we reduce the amount of garbage we produce?
Try to reuse and recycle things.

4. Listen. Listen to the report on how our oceans are polluted. Then complete the notes.

5. Read.
a. Match each word in A to an appropriate explanation in B.

Other animals such as frogs, toads, and even birds have also died from electric shock waves.
I would suggest that the local authorities have measures to stop this and to prohibit and fine heavily those who use this way to catch fish in order to protect the environment.
I look forward to hearing from you and seeing your immediate response.

7. Language focus. 
1. Change the adjectives into adverbs. Then use the adverbs to complete the sentences.
